MATER FILIUS FOUNDERS
Mater Filius was founded in Mexico in 2003, by the Sweet Love of Mary working through Miriam and Jose Manuel Tejeda. Their testimony is one of love, dedication, challenges, and commitment. Their 'yes' to share God's charity, mercy, and service to help pregnant women in need has spread from their native Mexico to many other countries, including four locations in the United States. Today there are over 10 Mater Filius homes worldwide. We encourage you to hear, in their own words, how Our Lady led them to establish Mater Filius.

VOLUNTEERS AT MATER FILIUS SHARE COMMON VALUES:
We are pro-life. We recognize the value and dignity of every human being.
We are pro-woman. We desire each mother to realize her value as a human being. We defend her dignity, and we respect her as a person.
We encourage women to make the best choices for themselves and their babies. Every woman can grow and become independent when she is nourished emotionally and spiritually.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, there are many options:
Internal volunteers. Internal volunteers work in our home with our mothers. Doulas, as mentors, work one-on-one with our mothers to provide them with loving guidance throughout their journey. In addition, evening and weekend volunteers work as support staff in our home to allow the house mother time off.
External volunteers. External volunteers, while not working directly with our mothers, are still vitally important. These volunteers help with managing donations, instructing workshops, and much more.
VOLUNTEER TESTIMONIALS
Kathy, a volunteer
“Mater Filius has given me a purpose and a way to help others. It has also given me perspective on my own life, and that I have a lot to be thankful for. I have been very touched by the relationships I’ve developed with not only the girls in the house but by the staff and other volunteers.”
Tehseen, a volunteer
“I didn’t know what to expect when I become a Doula. My relationship with the young mother I mentored took a while before she could trust me, but it was a blessing to watch her bloom. I love to watch her and her son together today as they live their life outside of Mater Filius. We stay in regular contact and I’m still her biggest cheerleader. I really value her presence in my life and she’s a true example of how with God’s help, anyone can change.”
