About Mater Filius Miami

FACING AN UNEXPECTED PREGNANCY AND SCARED?

Mater Filius Miami is a Catholic apostolate created to help women facing an unexpected pregnancy who find themselves without support.

Pregnant women are welcome regardless of their socio-economic status, marital status, immigration status, ethnicity, or religious beliefs.

HERE WE CAN GIVE YOU THE SUPPORT YOU NEED.

Women receive housing, counseling, and coordination of medical care, as well as emotional and spiritual support, at no cost. Through workshops, they learn how to parent. Through prayer, they find the love of Jesus Christ.

Mater Filius focuses on both the unborn baby and the mother. We embrace pregnant women and offer them a safe, orderly, and peaceful environment inside our home. We know that a stable and nurturing surrounding is crucial to a worry-free pregnancy, a healthy birth and the emotional and spiritual growth of a new parent, ready to take on the responsibilities of parenthood.

Pregnancy, by design, is meant to be experienced in the context of family and our home offers a caring and nurturing family life. Each member of the house, regardless of their role, is changed profoundly by the experience. Thus, Mater Filius not only provides for the physical and emotional needs of the pregnant women who are our guests, but also encourages the emotional and spiritual growth of the donors, volunteers, and staff.

When facing an unexpected pregnancy, there are many fears and challenges that can seem overwhelming. Our staff and programs help women deal with these challenges. Here are some of the most common concerns expressed by young women who did not expect their pregnancy:

  • I’m just not ready to have a child.
  • How can I afford to have this baby?
  • How do I tell my family and/or friends?
  • What if the father of the baby is not supportive?
  • What if I am considering abortion?
  • How does adoption work?
  • How can I continue my education?
  • Where will I live?

The supportive staff of Mater Filius understands that each person’s situation is unique. We are here to help every young woman deal with her concerns through our professional, caring and life-affirming programs.

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him.”

Psalm 62:5

YOU DON’T NEED TO GO THROUGH A CRISIS PREGNANCY ALONE

Are you a pregnant woman in need of a safe and supportive place to stay? Are you going through a crisis pregnancy and looking for a nurturing home environment?

Mater Filius Miami is a Catholic apostolate created to help pregnant women in Miami and surrounding areas who find themselves without support. Inside the home of Mater Filius, women find the basic needs of life: shelter, food, clothes, safety, organization, order, support, hope, and peace.

Our home aids young women and their babies during pregnancy, childbirth, and the subsequent months after childbirth. We can help guide you towards a positive path in your life journey. We focus on establishing a safe environment for you to live in while you develop the skills you need to live independently. In addition, Mater Filius connects mothers to the appropriate agencies and resources including prenatal care, health insurance, low-cost housing, and education programs.

Mater Filius welcomes pregnant women at any point in their pregnancy into a supportive environment. Often in difficult and complicated situations, the backgrounds of the mothers that come to Mater Filius typically include homelessness, previous drug use, rape, abusive relationships, little understanding of self-worth, no employment experience, limited education, bad relationships with family members, poor support networks, or mental illness. With a focus on the present, not the past, Mater Filius helps each woman on her individual journey through the process of healing and towards creating a future of stability and hope for herself and her child.
